I Made A Schedule And Immediately Disobeyed It

Hello dear readers. It is Lauren again, back from the dead! My birthday was kind of a busy time, and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

That's just....

Anyway, I write to you with a (possibly) life changing event! Okay, so I'm in band class, and we're playing this real jazzy tune-

-and class is boring like usual. I don't want to get scolded for reading this surprisingly good sci-fi book I'm into-

We'll get into that later

- and so I'm stuck sitting there, kind of dismissively staring at random spots in the band room.
Our band room has tiers, of sorts. It's like the room has a semi-circle ground area (on level with the rest of the building), and then a two-inch-ish raised step radiating out from that semi-circle, and all around there are like 5 of these "steps".

I'm trying my best, everybody. #haters. Psh.

So the highest level is instrument lockers and percussion instruments. I'm looking at them when a new instrument catches my eye:

Hey, I play those!
*ba dum tss*

The caption pretty accurately conveys my surprise, and my delight. I am, after all, a know-it-all, and as a know-it-all, I express this by showing off. The class is "dismissed" a little early, our band teacher needs to talk with some kids. We wait around in the band room for the bell to ring. I, of course, make a bee-line for that drum set with a friend of mine because I'd have probably peed myself otherwise.

"Can we get ice cream afterward?"
"If you behave....."

I get up there and borrow some sticks from the boyfriend of an art friend of mine.

I have connections.

I can hear the air escaping from my lungs. The friendly chatter seems so cacophonous, like a bass drum being thrown down the stairs. My heart beats like the hooves of a horse, as melodic as the drum fills running through my brain. I'm nervous, so I remember all of 3 fills. I bet it felt a lot longer than it actually was, because it felt like I sat on that stupid seat, coating this random dude's sticks in my sweat, almost but not quite hiding, crying, or dying for hours.

Selfie!

Yeah, so I guess I played alright. Once that first stick struck the cymbal and the waves of sweet noise cascade in grand swells over me and I feel so small yet so big, so inspired, so influential that I could bend this background object into a beauty of cacophony, it was all kind of an adrenaline rush after that.

Get it? Rush? It's based on a song by Rush?
... this book is actually good you know...

Lauren's Happy Face

Lauren's Happy Face
A wild Lern in her natural habitat
Lauren seems like a non-shortenable name, yet Lauren regularly goes by Lern or Lernderern. She is an 8th grader from Michigan who is disturbingly self-aware and somewhat hypocritical at times. She also happens to be terrible at describing herself. Her email is penguin1366@gmail.com, so send her something because she is SO BORED, like ALL the TIME. She sincerely wishes you the best, and hopes you gain something from reading her blog. Bye!
